N-nicotinoyl-GABA 50mg tablet £50 / 30 tablets

N-nicotinoyl-GABA is a unique compound formed by linking gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)—the brain’s primary calming neurotransmitter—with nicotinic acid (niacin/vitamin B3). GABA is a well known supplement used for relaxation, mood and enhancing memory. The only problem is that it is a large molecule that poorly penetrates to the brain where it is intended to work. Linking GABA to B3 helps the molecule reach the brain in large concentrations.

NN-nicotinoyl-GABA: A Smarter Way to Deliver Calm to the Brain

The blood–brain barrier (BBB) is a remarkable protective system evolved to shield the central nervous system (CNS) from harmful substances. It controls the movement of molecules between circulating blood and brain tissue, allowing only specific compounds to enter the brain and spinal cord.

While this is vital for neurological health, it poses a challenge when attempting to deliver beneficial compounds to the brain—gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) being a prime example. GABA is the brain’s primary inhibitory neurotransmitter, responsible for calming neuronal activity. However, oral GABA supplements have extremely low bioavailability, as the molecule does not efficiently cross the BBB.

To overcome this, Soviet researchers in the late 1970s—including V.M. Kopelevich, L.M. Shmuylovich, and V.I. Trubnikov—developed a novel compound: N-nicotinoyl-GABA. By chemically linking niacin (vitamin B3) to GABA, they created a molecule capable of traversing the BBB via niacin transport pathways. Once inside the brain, N-nicotinoyl-GABA hydrolyzes to release both GABA and niacin, delivering dual therapeutic benefits.

Pharmaceutical Origins and Global Status

Originally developed and registered as a pharmaceutical drug in the former Soviet Union, N-nicotinoyl-GABA has been used clinically since the 1980s to support anxiety reduction, neuroprotection, and stress regulation. It continues to be prescribed in Russia and some Eastern European countries. In contrast, regulatory shifts in the West have seen it reclassified as a nutritional supplement, despite a solid safety record and ongoing clinical interest.

At Leicester Ozone Clinic, we have carefully sourced a genuine pharmaceutical-grade version of N-nicotinoyl-GABA, staying true to its original formulation as developed in Russian clinical settings. We do not rely on low-grade or generic supplement alternatives—our commitment to quality means we offer only doctor-reviewed, traceable, and scientifically supported options for our clients.

How GABA and Niacin Work—Together

GABA is synthesized in the brain from glutamate, an excitatory neurotransmitter, via the enzyme glutamate decarboxylase, with vitamin B6 as a cofactor. Once produced, GABA acts on two major receptor types:

  • GABA-A receptors: regulate chloride channels to inhibit neuron firing.

  • GABA-B receptors: affect potassium and calcium conductance and reduce neurotransmitter release.

This results in calmer, more regulated brain activity, supporting relaxation, emotional balance, and sleep.

However, orally administered GABA rarely reaches the brain due to its limited permeability. In contrast, niacin is well-absorbed and can cross the BBB, where it supports vasodilation, NAD+ synthesis, neuronal protection, and energy metabolism.

When these two molecules are molecularly bound, niacin acts as a carrier to facilitate GABA’s entry into the CNS. Once in the brain, the bond breaks down to release both bioactive GABA and niacin, resulting in enhanced calming effects and vascular support.

Key Benefits of N-nicotinoyl-GABA

Emerging studies, primarily from Russian pharmacological literature, suggest that N-nicotinoyl-GABA may offer the following benefits:

  • Reduced anxiety and stress

  • Improved sleep quality

  • Neuroprotection and support for healthy brain aging

  • Anti-inflammatory activity in the nervous system

It is being explored not only for general wellness but also as a complementary agent in neurological recovery, mental performance, and stress-related disorders.

Suggested Use and Safety

Typical dosing ranges from 30 mg to 100 mg daily, depending on individual sensitivity and intended effect. As with any neuroactive compound, it is advised to start low and titrate slowly under professional supervision.

Caution: Do not combine N-nicotinoyl-GABA with other GABAergic agents (e.g., benzodiazepines, gabapentin, pregabalin, alcohol).

While generally well tolerated, higher doses may occasionally cause:

  • Mild abdominal discomfort

  • Headaches

  • Drowsiness

It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

A Note on Product Integrity

At Leicester Ozone Clinic, we understand the importance of purity, potency, and sourcing transparency. We have worked closely with our partners to ensure that the N-nicotinoyl-GABA we offer is pharmaceutical-grade, lab-tested, and produced in accordance with the original clinical standards—not a diluted or altered version found in mass-market supplements.

If you're looking for a calm, focused mind with enhanced neurological resilience, N-nicotinoyl-GABA may be the right addition to your wellness protocol.
